I tried something new this weekend and used online booking to get our golf times for this weekend. The bad news is that means since I’m doing the booking, I must have lost the previous weekend! Oh well, good news is that I have the choice of the golf course.
I searched around at various courses and saw one we hadn’t played in a while, and noticed the online tee time feature. Created an account quickly(name, password, phone number, CC #) and saw an interesting opportunity. The day I booked our two foursomes was the last day before summer rates kick in, so instead of $83 to play if we played this course any later, it’s only going to be $62, AND I also saved another $10 by booking “sunrise” times. At this time of year, we could start easily at 5:30, but I chose the last sunrise rates @ 6:30 and 6:40 AM. Ended up at $52(+ tax), pretty good for a first class golf course.
I was surprised to learn that Redwoods was built in the early ’90s(1994), which by looking at the relatively new looking clubhouse, shouldn’t have been that surprising.
I arrived about an hour early and hits some balls at the driving range and hit a few putts on the practice green.

The Bent grass greens and Winter Rye fairways here are known to be kept in superb condition, and although I thought the rough grass was a a bit too long, the course was in great shape. By the way, I only “whine” about the length of the rough because the course is already narrow tough, and as the name of the golf course implies, trees guard many of the narrow fairways and when you’re not playing so great, extra long rough is just kicking a guy when he’s down. /rant over, lol!
Here’s a couple of examples of what I mean.

Fortunately, the golf course opens up for those who like to use the big stick and whack it down the fairway.

Located between Walnut Grove and Fort Langley, it’s only a 30 minute trip from North Vancouver, that is if you leave at 5 in the morning. No traffic, tunes cranked, sun rising, I don’t mind that at all.

A couple of last notes about the golf course. The distance between a few of the holes is a bit of a walk, so you might consider a power cart. Normally I don’t use them but moving furniture all week and being able to drive on the fairways(as opposed to cart path only), I paid the extra $$ for a ride.
Also, there’s a webcam overlooking the 18th hole that you can waste time watching for those slow days at work, check it out here:WEBCAM
