After another stink job on the course today, and those thoughts of getting a few lessons crossed my mind during the drive home from the site of carnage and destruction, again. Hack, slash, chunk…you name it, I did it. It’s happened before and it’ll happen again. Always have a pretty good explanation too. “Just didn’t have it today”,”Practiced too hard the day before”,and one of my favourites: “Trying out too many new things”.uneedthem
It’s becoming more evident all the time, I need some help.
There, I said it! First step>admitting problem, right? Ok, so what’s the problem here? Money? Can’t be,done the math already.Sure, $50-$60 dollars a half hour isn’t cheap. But I’m sure there’s a few of you who buy that new driver or iron set to fix your problem. What did that cost you? Game still sucks, huh? And if it’s me in this example, make that driverS,iron setS, (insert any equipment here, plural). Haha, ok, I see the light.
However, I’ve discovered it’s just not me. So many golfers, not so many lessons, if any. Why? Do you have better excuse than me? You say you read about golf lessons? ben-hogans-five-lessons-the-modern-fundamentals-of-golf Well, hate to tell you, we probably all have and it’s just not good enough. At the time we’re deep into chapter 7 the first 6 chapters are long gone. Not to mention even if we remember a tip or two while at the range, trying to utilize it just doesn’t work.
There’s books, internet video, and even a lot of annoying website I see on Twitter. You know the kind. “Save 12 Strokes in 10 Minutes”. Sure, I’ll just give you my CC info and PIN while I’m at it, NOT.fix slice
At least I’ve established the kinds of lessons I would want to take, the kind with a real live person showing me what to do. In fact, thinking about it, I emailed a certified instructor a while back during my driver blues era, asking him if he’d just teach me to hit that horrible beast of a stick. He said sure, yet I let it end there. What is this block preventing me from proceeding?
And it gets worse. Just minutes away from me, there’s a high tech teaching facility, The Green Room. These guys do it all. They’ll strap you in a suit and create a digital version of your swing. They’ll give you one on one lessons(albeit into a “virtual” golf course) and they’ll even fit your clubs. I toured the whole place, nodded my head a lot, and again..nothing.
Hell, I’ve even bought lessons as a gift for someone, how’s that for hypocrisy? Nice,Huh. Alright then, that’s it. I’m going. basicbutforget We’ll start slow, see how it goes, and carry on from there. A plan!
I will email that instructor again and make an appointment. I will carry this through, this time. What can he do to me? Teach me the proper swing concepts, teach me to be consistent? A few more sentences like that and I’m sure I’ll be convinced!
Ah dang, who am I kidding? It’ll all turn around and I’ll be on the Tour in no time, just from pure natural talent.
